according to official journal of the european union on 18 december 2018, the european commission implementing decision (eu) 2018/2013 on the identification of 1,7,7-trimethyl-3-(phenylmethylene)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one(3-benzylidenecamphor) as a substance of very high concern pursuant to article 57(f) of regulation (ec) no 1907/2006 of the european parliament and of the council.
the commission notes that in line with the opinion of the msc (the member state committee of the agency) 3-benzylidene camphor alters the function of the endocrine system and hence has an endocrine mode of action, and 3-benzylidene camphor induces irreversible and long lasting effects on wild life populations. hence, 3-benzylidene camphor should be identified as a substance of very high concern pursuant to article 57(f) of regulation (ec) no 1907/2006 due to its endocrine disrupting properties with probable serious effects to the environment.
